Awareness: From Autopilot to a Museum Where You Admire Every Work of Art

Hello, dear human! Your attention is here with me. But before we got here, how aware are you of the process that brought you to this moment? How are you feeling right now? How rested are you? How does your body feel? How do you smell? What does the skin on your hands look like? Did you have a healthy and energizing breakfast? Can you feel how healthy food gives you vitality?

Awareness, what a useful and fascinating word: Awareness is like your brain living in a museum of curiosities, where every moment and every object becomes a piece of art. Instead of rushing through life on fast-forward, you begin to notice every detail. So instead of hurriedly eating your cereal, you start to admire its shape and texture as if it were a work of art. A fly on the wall is no longer just a fly—it becomes a tiny acrobat in your personal circus show. And when you look at the clock? It’s like attending a poetry reading, each tick a new verse in an eternal story.

Of course, it can also be easy to get distracted, like when you try meditating for the first time and end up thinking about every speck of dust in the room, until you find yourself in a mental conversation with them—“Hey, how long have you been here?” Awareness can turn a boring commute into an epic adventure, where every traffic light is a potential stop to reflect on the meaning of life.

Welcome to the museum! Let’s enjoy the next “exhibits” that can help us savor life without running away from ourselves or the world around us.

  1. Life in a Bite: Taste Experiences

When you drink your morning coffee, instead of doing it mechanically, stop and savor the real taste. You don’t have to be a coffee expert to allow yourself to feel every aromatic note—whether it’s a hint of vanilla, a shadow of caramel, a sharper acidity, or the oil in an espresso.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away… or brings life closer. The taste of an apple becomes an explosion of sensations. Not just the sweet-tart flavor, but also its crunchy texture, the juice running over your tongue, and the feel of the peel become the epicenter of your experience.

  1. Barefoot in the Park: Observing Nature

A walk in the park is no longer just a walk, a step count. Budding leaves tell stories of new beginnings, just like each day you become more aware. A courtyard where the linden tree is in bloom can be a perfumery of a shy summer.

Lift your gaze to the tree canopy, imagine the foliage as nature’s party happening right next to you. Doesn’t your mind feel like it’s entered a different state? Creativity breaks barriers and sets a new path for your day’s goals.

  1. I See You, I Hear You, I Listen: Human Interactions

An ordinary conversation with a friend becomes a chance to observe not just the words, but how facial expressions change, how hands move, and the tone of voice. Every aspect is a clue to emotions and personality. Be a keen observer, be an even better listener.

Music in words? Yes. When someone tells you a story, try to pay attention to vocal inflections, word choices, every detail that gives you insight into their life and experiences. Don’t you walk away richer from that conversation?

  1. Small Gestures, Deep Effects: Daily Activities

What if you could feel how good it is when soap touches your skin? Washing your hands can become an opportunity to feel the texture of the water, the lathering of the soap, and the refreshing sensation that envelops you. It’s more of a sacred ritual than a mundane routine.

If you’ve had the chance to read Make Your Bed, this activity can take on new dimensions—a conscious habit. Making the bed turns each sheet-stretching movement into a carefully planned choreography, where every crease can reflect your inner state.

  1. All Eyes and Ears: States of Awareness

One flower doesn’t make a spring… or maybe it does. Reflecting on a flower, you don’t just admire its beauty—you lose yourself in every vein of the leaves, the outline of the petals, and how it moves in a gentle breeze. Pollen can be a map of the flower’s life and the bees that seek it for pollination. Every observation is an entry point into a new universe.

Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti… and listening to music becomes a discovery of each individual instrument, an experience of every beat and note that transports you to another dimension.

  1. Slow Down and Live: Moments of Calm

When you watch raindrops gather on the window, each drop is a story in itself. Observe how it forms, how it slides, and how it merges with others, forming tiny rivers of water.

Walking down the street isn’t just moving from point A to point B. Each step is a new sensation—slow your pace, shorten your stride, feel and bring your mind’s attention to every detail—from the feel of the pavement under your shoe to the sounds around you.

Now that you’ve gone through all these exercises, do you feel even slightly that moments of awareness turn life into art? That you can transform something mundane into a special experience, no matter how small or seemingly simple it may be? That every moment can become a spectacle you can’t take your eyes off, and you are the one who sets its intensity, duration, flow, and purpose?

Living this way, your brain is on a perpetual vacation, discovering beauty and the extraordinary in what once seemed ordinary.

If these exercises brought us closer to a state we rarely experience, let’s lay the foundation for behaviors and habits through motivation.

How Does Awareness Help Us?

We respond better to change when we have a stake, a goal. Our well-being is certainly one of them. But let’s get concrete—here are a few areas we encounter daily where awareness plays a key role:

I make decisions more easily, more consciously, with clearer vision

By cultivating awareness, we make more informed and balanced decisions. Awareness allows us to see things from multiple perspectives, reducing impulsivity and increasing reflection.

I’m more efficient, more productive, work flows easier with better results

Being more aware, we become more engaged in our activities, which leads to improved focus and greater productivity. Awareness helps us be more present and work with intention.

My mind is well, I am well, those around me are well

Awareness enhances our ability to empathize and communicate effectively. By being aware of our own emotions, we can interact more authentically and wisely with others, improving the quality of our relationships.

What I do to reach awareness, concretely:

  1. I meditate daily, at least 10 minutes

Meditation is one of the most effective practices for developing awareness. It helps us focus on our breath and be present in the moment. Through meditation, we learn to observe thoughts and emotions without judgment, fostering calm and clarity.

  1. I practice journaling

Writing a journal about daily thoughts and emotions helps us understand them better. This self-reflection process offers new perspectives on our reactions and behaviors, helping us cultivate awareness.

  1. When I feel slightly off-track, I realign through mindfulness

Practicing mindfulness means being fully present and aware of the current moment. This can be done through simple activities like eating, walking, or listening to music—but done with full attention and involvement.

As you can see, the journey toward awareness can be enjoyable—it can be an easy process. It all depends on each of us and our desire to transform life into that art museum we talked about at the beginning. What I can say for sure is that every moment gains special value, and every experience, no matter how small or seemingly mundane, becomes a spectacle we’d all love to live.
